Where Do Vegans Get Protein?

“But Tia, where do you get your protein from?”
...
Can we chat about this for a second?
I thought I’d share a little bit of info for all my friends out there who are, or have been interested in eating more plant based, BUT are hesitant because, “where do you get your protein from?”
...
This is a question I get a lot and when I hear it, I am immediately excited because it’s my chance to educate people on what these amazing plants really can do for us if we eat them.
...
We have been brain washed into thinking protein ONLY comes from meat and other animal products (among so many other things - I’ll save you that speech though). You know the saying, “Strong as an ox?” Show me one ox that eats meat, or one elephant, giraffe, or gorilla. These are some of the largest animals on the planet, with some of the largest muscles and all of the protein they need comes from PLANTS! 🌱 All of it. Animals are just a middle man for us to get protein. We do not need to eat them to get it, or to live and thrive. Now, wanting to eat them is a different story, but we are talking basic needs here.

To show you just how much protein you can get in one day of eating only plants, I’m going to show you what I ate yesterday. Now this is me, and the amount of food I can fit in my stomach. Keep in mind, the recommended daily amount of protein for a sedentary man is about 56g and for women, 46g.

Chocolate Chip Cherry Oatmeal: 15g of protein

Potato wedges and hummus with spinach: 20g of protein (13g from the potatoes)

Pad Thai noodles with broccoli: 20g of protein (with 15g from the broccoli).

So yesterday, I had 55g of protein and I didn’t do one ounce of exercising requiring me to have a little more than my recommended 45g. That means I had extra grams of protein for the day without even trying…all from plants!

There you have it my friends. Please don’t let the false information you see and hear out there, lead you to believe that you NEED meat to get enough protein. Plants were created in abundance for a reason.

Wishing you nothing but the best on your health and wellness journey!
